Geshe (Professor) Khensur Rinpoche Ngawang Thekchok

His Eminence Khensur Rinpoche Ngawang Theckchok.1His Eminence Khensur Rinpoche Ngawang Thekchok was appointed by His Holiness the Dalai Lama as Abbot of Sera Mey University where he served as Abbot for more than 10 years. To date, Rinpoche, the highest of the former Abbots of the main Gelupa Universities has trained many Abbots and Geshes. He taught and lived at Sera Mey University until he passed away on 9th April 2013.

H.E Khensur Rinpoche was born in 1928 in Eastern Tibet and became a monk by his own wish at the age of 11 years old, entering Sera Mey University at 17. He has attained the Highest Degree of Studies.

In the past 40 years, other than practising in retreat a few times, Rinpoche has also worked continuously and selflessly for the monastic education at Sera Mey University. On a typical day, Rinpoche would teach up to 6 sessions, totaling 16 hours, to different groups of students.

His passing away on 9th April 2013 is an immeasurable loss.
